Stevenage boss Darren Sarll says Saturday’s 3-0 success over Notts County was a ‘very satisfying win’.

Two goals from Matt Godden and a Jack King strike helped Boro to all three points at the weekend, and moved the club to within three points of the League Two automatic promotion places.

Boro have now won seven and drawn one of their last eight games and this coming weekend will leap above neighbours Luton Town if they win at Kenilworth Road.

Speaking about Saturday’s win, Sarll said: “It’s becoming a lovely habit on a Saturday at 5pm to come out and be nice and relaxed and very positive about our football club and what we’re doing here. I thought it was a very good performance and a very satisfying win.

“It’s very pleasing to replicate what we’re doing Monday to Friday [on the training pitch]. The boys are in that place at the moment and can see what we’re doing is bringing a lot of success and joy to their weekend.

“It is nice to see them work off a plan and execute it so well.”

Sarll added: “Every time we try to play and pass it we look a real threat and we are a side that have to pass it short. Our players dictate that, the type of players and technical ability we have.”

Boro bossed the game from start to finish and were well worth their win. Godden’s goals were his 19th and 20th in all competitions this season, while for King the weekend’s effort was the defender’s first goal since September.

Speaking about the latter, and his calmness on the ball, Sarll said: “Even when that ball came in and when everyone else is dead Jack was still on the move and that was a very calm finish.

“That’s Jack’s personality. You can put him in the heat of any battle and he’ll look calm and composed.”
