Baldock was hit by a small power cut yesterday after an ‘explosion’ beneath a manhole.
Firefighters from Baldock & Letchworth station were called to Hitchin Road at 11.50am after what a fire service spokeswoman called an ‘explosion from an underground electical cover’, with smoke emanating from the manhole.
Fire personnel made the scene safe and summoned electrical engineers.
A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said: “Engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to three customers following a fault on an underground cable in Hitchin Street yesterday lunchtime. All power supplies were restored at 7.05pm.
“We understand how difficult it is to be without power and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
