Police have arrested a man wanted for sentencing in connection with a drugs robbery that went tragically wrong leading to the death of Stevenage’s Mark Altabas.
Christopher Mooney, 36, of Haygarth, Knebworth, was wanted for failing to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on March 24 for sentencing, in connection with the robbery which took place at a house in Long Leaves, Stevenage on April 21 last year.
Mooney was one of a gang of three robbers who planned in advance to rob drugs from dealer Destao Pedro - then 18, who had just returned from stocking up his supply in London.
When they burst into the property one of the gang – 46-year-old Mark Altabas – got into a scuffle with Pedro in which he sustained stab wounds, and later died.
Pedro was cleared of his murder in January this year, but Mooney and a third gang member, Stuart Cuthbert, were charged with conspiracy to rob.
They will be sentenced in due course.
