The family of a teenage Letchworth footballer who died after a car crash are to hold their fourth annual five-a-side fundraising tournament this weekend.
Adam and Laura Harpur are behind the competition in aid of the James Harpur Player Support Fund, named after their brother – Adam’s twin – who died aged 18 in 2012.
The support fund helps families from less privileged backgrounds to meet the cost of things such as training fees and match subsidies so their children can play for Letchworth Garden City Eagles FC.
And this past year it has also donated a full set of kit, goals and balls to Letchworth’s Woolgrove School, as well as kitting out a play room at Brandles School in Baldock.
Adam said: “It’s extra special to us now to keep this going as Vince Paige from Letchworth Garden City Eagles passed earlier this year, and he played a huge part in helping us start the fund in the first place. Quite frankly we would have struggled running it without him for such a length of time.”
Spectators are welcome at the tournament this Sunday at the Eagles’ ground, off Baldock Road, which starts at 11.30am.
