The founder of a Letchworth creative maker group has donated the proceeds of a week operating as a pop-up shop to charity.

Lisa Heaton – founder of the Artisan Ladder group of costume-makers, painters, ceramicists, glassmakers, jewellers and much more – yesterday presented a cheque for £59.10 to Sarah Hickey and Karon Hatfield of Hertfordshire Mind.

The money was raised during a week in which the Artisan Ladder turned the community museum in Letchworth’s Arcade into a pop-up shop in early June.

Though the amount was relatively modest, it was gratefully received and will be added to by donations made by the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation through their sponsorship of Hertfordshire Mind this year.

Lisa told the Comet: “I am really happy to be able to donate this money to Mind.

“Crafting and making things seems to be so linked to improved mental health that it seemed particularly appropriate to support the important work of this charity as much as possible.”

The Artisan Ladder funds will go towards furnishing and equipment for the consultation rooms at the new Letchworth Wellbeing Centre, which opened earlier this year in the old Post Office building in Broadway.

Artisan Ladder aims to put on another pop-up event later this year, with Lisa currently seeking suitable premises and interested artisans.
