An emergency services awareness day in Stevenage town centre taught shoppers life-saving skills such as CPR.

The event in Town Square last Sunday was led by first aid charity St John Ambulance and gave people the chance to learn more about the work of Hertfordshire’s emergency services and the role they play in communities.

St John Ambulance spokesman Ian Groves said: “The event was very successful despite the cold weather. The St John Ambulance volunteers gave CPR and recovery position demonstrations during the day and we were really pleased to have received some volunteering enquiries from people.

“There were enquiries about whether we are planning to repeat the event and we can confirm that we’re looking at arranging another one next summer.”
