Knebworth author Ken Follett has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
The bestselling writer was inducted last night when he signed its historic leatherbound roll book at its summer party at London’s Bloomsbury Hotel.
Mr Follett’s thrillers and historical novels have sold more than 150 million copies worldwide. His books include On Wings of Eagles, The Pillars of the Earth and The Man from St Petersburg.
The author, whose offices are in Stevenage Old Town, said: “I am delighted to have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
“I am very pleased to join an esteemed group in the Fellowship of such a renowned and valuable institution.”
The literary honour, which the Royal Society of Literature has given to distinguished writers since its foundation in 1820, means Ken Follett joins literary greats like Thomas Hardy, JRR Tolkien and JK Rowling as a lifetime Fellow.
