A skate park in Biggleswade has been closed by Central Bedfordshire Council amid safety concerns.

Fencing was put up around the skate facilities yesterday to prevent public entry following an inspection – which highlighted the need for further investigation into the safety of the ramp structures.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “We apologise to the public for the closure while we make important safety checks. There have been no incidents, but Biggleswade skate park has been open for around 15 years, which means it is a relatively old skate park.

“During that time, we have continued to undertake ongoing repairs and maintenance to the facilities. However, we need to check the current condition of the skate park.

“We ask the public to respect the decision to close the skate park, and for people not to enter or use the skate facilities while these essential safety checks are carried out.”
