It has been 30 years since Baldock formed its partnership with Eisenberg in Germany – a twinning which led to friendships that are being maintained to this day.

To celebrate, Baldock Town Twinning Association chairman Paul Luckett and his wife Sue welcomed 24 visitors from Eisenberg and three guests from Sanvignes – Baldock’s French twinning town.

Paul said: “There is no doubt that over the years the long-standing partnership has seen personal friendships formed.

“These friendships will continue for many more years. “The cultural and social exchange that our twinning partnership offers binds the two towns and the people together.”

The festivities began with a welcome reception at Paul and Sue’s home, followed by an official dinner, gifts and dancing.

“The days we spend together are always enjoyable and provide many lasting memories,” Paul continued.

“Soon a group from Baldock will be travelling to Sanvignes to spend an enjoyable few days with French twinning partners.

“The time that our members spend with their partner families in both Germany and France is very much a highlight of the twinning years and many members have long-standing friendships with the families.”

The following day there was free time for everyone to catch up on their news and visit local places of interest.

Other activities included a trip on the river Thames and a visit to the oldest model village Bekonscot, home to the oldest railway in the world.

The visit was concluded with a coffee morning get together, hosted by Janet and John Hammond at their home.

Paul added: “Although the membership of Baldock Town Twinning Association is stable and enthusiastic there is a need to attract more members to continue the traditions that have been established.

“Both Eisenberg and Sanvignes are looking to attract new, and if possible young members.

“Both have made some progress which will require Baldock to find host families for these new families.”
