New trees have been planted in Letchworth to mark the Queen’s lifetime of Commonwealth service and her commitment to forest conservation.
North East Herts MP Sir Oliver Heald is one of more than 500 MPs to plant trees as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy initiative.
The trees - two silver birch, two rowan, and a hazel – were planted in Baldock Road Recreation Ground on Friday.
They were donated thanks to a partnership between the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury’s, and ITV – which screened a landmark documentary, The Queen’s Green Planet in April.
Sir Oliver, who strong supporter of measures to plant more woodland, said: “I was very pleased to accept the offer of the Woodland Trust and Sainsbury’s to plant some trees as part of the QCC.
“ I am grateful to the Letchworth Heritage Foundation and North Herts District Council for arranging for them to be planted at the Baldock Road Recreation Ground.”
