Firefighters were called to Exeter Close in Stevenage last night (Monday, December 13) following reports of black smoke coming from a house in the street.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 7.24pm to a report of a house filled with smoke. On arrival, the fire crews from Green Watch - who had been preparing for a planned training exercise in Stevenage before the emergency callout - found the first floor of the property filled with smoke, but no fire.
Police officers assisted the firefighters at the scene and all people in the property were accounted for.
A spokesman for the Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters cleared the smoke and made the scene safe. The cause of the incident is being investigated by fire and police officers."
