Colleagues from a Hitchin company have raised more than £10,000 for local causes with the three peaks challenge.

Staff members from Willmott Dixon’s Hitchin office scaled Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales in just 24 hours.

The hiking heroes braved fog, wind and rain to tackle a gruelling total ascent of 3,064 metres and trekked a distance of 23 miles over rugged terrain.

As well as taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, to raise further funds they also put on display in a charity football tournament.

In total, the kind-hearted colleagues have raised more than £10,000 for local causes. This includes £3,474.08 for Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger.

They were inspired to support the Sue Ryder hospice in memory of much-loved colleague, Sarah Keeping, who sadly died last year.

Sarah received care from the hospice before she passed away.

James Vosper, assistant supply chain coordinator at Willmott Dixon, said: “As a team, we wanted to raise money for three worthwhile causes that had recently impacted our people, including the loss of one of our colleagues.

"As such, a number of our trainees and directors took on the Three Peaks challenge and a charity football tournament. In total we raised just over £10,000 with the money then split equally across the three charities.”

Jo Landucci, senior community fundraiser at Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to the staff at Willmott Dixon for their incredible support.

"We are really impressed with how you have gone over and above to raise vital funds and pay a fitting tribute. Your kind donation will help us to make sure we can keep offering our expert palliative care and support to local families when they need us the most – and fill their last days with love.

“We are searching for other super supporters who can take part in fundraising challenges – such as our Snowdon by Night adventure. Our hospice’s fundraising team are on hand to support any other organisations or individuals who might be looking to support a local charity in 2022.
