Fancy a trip down memory lane?
Old footage online offers a window into Stevenage’s past and – as one would expect – while the cars and hairstyles have certainly changed, many sites in our town look rather familiar.
The 1966 footage, uploaded by REMINISCE yesterday's Britain, is that of an old news clip reporting on the completion of the new town development.
It focuses on highlights of Stevenage that we still benefit from today - including our Gunnels Wood business area, extensive cycleways and pedestrian access.
In 1946, Stevenage was designated the United Kingdom's first New Town under the New Towns Act.
In 2021, Stevenage celebrated 75 years of the new town.
If you have any film footage of yesteryear in Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth & Baldock or surrounds that you’d like to share, please send it to news@thecomet.net with your contact details.
