OVER 4,000 vehicles have been seized for the drivers having no insurance in less than a year by Herts Police. Figures released today (Tuesday) show that the county force seized 4,042 vehicles between April 2008 and February 2009 – an average of 12 a day.

Figures released today (Tuesday) show that the county force seized 4,042 vehicles between April 2008 and February 2009 - an average of 12 a day.
Herts Chief Constable Frank Whiteley said: "It is estimated that (nationally) uninsured and untraced drivers kill 160 people and injure 23,000 every year. Uninsured drivers are more likely to be involved in road traffic accidents, more likely to be non-compliant with other road traffic requirements and potentially involved in other criminal activity."
Law abiding motorists who are insured are paying nearly �30 each towards a total sum in excess of �500m to compensate people injured by uninsured drivers.
