AN ASPIRING actor has won a part in a big budget Bollywood film.

Kieran McGarvie, 23, will play a member of the English royal family in Veer, which is set to be released later in the year.

The healthcare worker from Stevenage will depart for two weeks of filming in Bath later this month.

He said: "I'm really pleased to have been chosen for the part. It's the biggest role I've had so far, and apparently Veer is going to be one of the most expensive Bollywood films ever made."

It will be the second time Kieran has been involved in a major film, having taken a supporting role in Nine, a musical starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman and Dame Judy Dench. This comes out in November.

He hopes to be able to take up acting full time at some point in the future.

"I never had any formal acting training beyond GSCE drama," he said. "It's just something I've always wanted to do and I hope my acting career will continue to grow."

Kieran, who lived in Royston for most of his life but is now based in Stevenage, was a pupil at John Henry Newman School, Stevenage, and hopes to follow in the footsteps of two illustrious classmates.

He said: "I was in the same year as Lewis Hamilton and Ashley Young, so I wonder if I could become part of a trilogy of people from my year.

"I'm not going to say that I'll be as big as them, but it seems a coincidence that there was so much talent in my year group.
