Boro boss Graham Westley could not hide his delight at seeing his side take three "massive" points away at York City last night.

Goals from Lee Boylan and Steve Morison secured an invaluable victory and the Stevenage chief thought the whole performance had the hallmark of a promotion winning side.

"The win was massive after the two draws we posted," he told The Comet. "The word unbeaten was becoming a bit of a millstone around our necks and it was great to get back to winning ways.

"It's winning that we need to be doing if we are going to get in the play-offs. It was a promotion-winning away performance. In defence we were solid and organised and going forward we always looked as though we had a threat.

"The workrate was first class and the togetherness and team spirit was there for all to see."

Gary Mills put in the kind of authoritative performance that Westley has been waiting for since his summer move to The Lamex Stadium and the Boro boss believes the midfielder is finally starting to settle.

"I said to Gary afterwards 'welcome to the Football Club'. I thought he was excellent in the middle of the park and his passing got us going.

"He was a good organiser and a fantastic voice. He spreads urgency and I thought for a lad who has had a hard time at the football club he put in a tremendous performance.

"He played for me before at Rushden and we picked up a club that was second from bottom in the league and we won six and drew two in eight games. Millsy was instrumental and he was probably my best player there.

"I know what he can do - he has won League Two before let alone the Conference.

"He is a tremendous asset - he has not had the best of times at the football club but I thought he showed the quality player that he is.

"To have him fresh coming into the side with Bridges being out is a real boost for us.
