A special rose will be unveiled at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show tomorrow (Monday) to commemorate Olympic golden girl Victoria Pendleton's success at the Beijing Olympic Games last year.

Victoria, 28, from Stotfold, won the sprint cycling gold medal at the Olympics, and during her cycling career has won a cluster of other world and British titles.

The rose has been grown by Harkness Roses at their headquarters in Cambridge Road, Hitchin.

The idea of commemorating Victoria's achievement with a rose was that of Laslo Puskas from Bedwell, Stevenage, who said: "This is a golden rose to the golden girl to honour her achievement."

Mr John Harkness, a director of Harkness Roses said: "We started working on the rose soon after the Olympics. We are delighted to mark Victoria's fantastic accomplishments with this beautiful new rose."

Victoria and her mother Pauline are expected to be at the Harkness stand for the unveiling of the rose.
