The full MPs' expenses published today (Thursday) show that Peter Lilley spent tax payers' money on an audio book entitled 'Speeches That Changed The World'.
The member for Hitchin and Harpenden put in the claim as part of his Incidental Expenses Provision in 2007 to 2008, one of hundreds of expenses claims totalling �149,987 for the year.
The MP also claimed for a TomTom car navigator at �109.94 as well as spending �54.90 on a tilt and swivel holder and leather case for a mobile phone. Newspapers cost the taxpayer �80.70 a month, and he claimed �796.94 for a computer system and �807.23 for a printer.
In the same year Mr Lilley claimed the joint highest second home allowance in The Commons - a total of �23,083 for his second home in the borough of Westminster. Chits included �3,407 for a replacement boiler; �1,668 for repairs to a shower and �1,185 on window repairs. His monthly mortgage payment was �1058.45.
