A SPONSORED walk organised by the daughter of a man with multiple sclerosis has raised more than 1,300 to help people with the condition.

Kerrie Childs, of Colestrete in Stevenage, was joined by friends in a six-mile walk around the town to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC) charity.

Her father, Steve Allen, 59, of Broadwater Crescent in Stevenage, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis three years ago.

Kerrie, 27, said: "When I visit him it upsets me. Sometimes he has really good days and other days he is in so much pain it's horrible. I feel so helpless."

She said the MSRC has been very supportive so she wanted to do something which helped both the charity and her father.

Earlier this month, Kerrie and 15 others took part in the sponsored walk, taking one hour and 30 minutes to complete the course, which started at King George V playing fields and followed cycle paths around Stevenage.

She said: "Everyone had fun and I would like to say thanks to the people who did the walk, to all the people who sponsored us, and thank you to the MSRC for their support. Also, thanks to The Comet for advertising our walk. I love my daddy very much."
