North Herts District Council has chosen architects to draw up plans for Hitchin Town Hall to decide whether it is a suitable venue for a district museum.
The council invited plans from four developers in May and has chosen Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams to undertake a 30,000 feasibility study of the controversial scheme.
The appointment was announced at the first meeting of the Museums Facilities Working Group last night (Thursday), set up by NHDC and made up of interested parties.
The feasibility study will take place over the next 12 weeks and will determine how suitable the town hall is in meeting the needs of residents and the aspirations of museum staff.
