RESIDENTS opposed to the relocation of a secondary school to their neighbourhood are holding a picnic in a park as part of a petition day against the plans tomorrow (Saturday).
Herts County Council plans to move The Thomas Alleyne School from Stevenage Old Town to Great Ashby, as part of the wider Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme.
The BSF programme is set to rebuild, remodel and relocate secondary schools, special schools and education support centres across the county, beginning in Stevenage in early 2011.
But residents in Great Ashby are divided, with some opposing and some supporting the school move.
Those against it will be holding a picnic in the park behind Grampian Place in Great Ashby from 4pm.
The council is proposing to turn the park into a car park and access road as part of the relocation plans.
"We are staging this event to bring the community together," said Victoria Hughes, of Grampian Place in Great Ashby.
