Commenting on recent reports that residents in Comet Country could face a 20% rise in their fuel bills this winter, Hugh Annand, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North East Hertfordshire, said:
"Having suffered the disruption caused by the recent cold weather, local residents now face a massive hike in their fuel bills as energy companies fail to pass on a drop in wholesale costs.
"It is appalling that just 1% of homes in this country meet modern energy efficiency standards. At the same time, energy privatisation and weak regulation mean that the private energy suppliers can reap windfall profits from the recent cold weather.
"Liberal Democrats would take steps to ensure that every home was properly insulated and every consumer had access to fair energy prices.
