A coroner has ruled that Corporal Sarah Bryant, based with the Army Intelligence Corps at Chicksands, who was the first female member of the British Armed Forces to die in Afghanistan, was unlawfully killed.
Coroner David Masters gave his verdict at the end of the six day inquest into the death of Mrs Bryant and three of her colleagues when their Snatch Land Rover was hit by a roadside bomb in June 2008.
Summing up at the inquest in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, Mr Masters also highlighted the limitations of the Snatch Land Rovers and heard evidence from other soldiers who said they had not been shown how to use metal detectors in the UK due to an equipment shortage.
Giving his verdict, Mr Masters said: "I intend to submit a report top the Ministry of Defence which will take up a number of these issues which this inquesrt had quite properly canvassed.
