WORKS to Stevenage's gas pipe network, costing 750,000, get underway next week.
National Grid, in partnership with Morrison Utility Services, will be upgrading 4.3km of medium pressure gas mains over the next nine months.
The project will include work in parts of Gunnels Wood Road, Six Hills Way, Lytton Way, Fairlands Way, Martins Way and Verity Way.
Work is due to start in Gunnels Wood Road on April 6 and is expected to take 12 weeks.
Engineers will be replacing 900 metres of iron gas pipes with plastic ones on the northbound side of Gunnels Wood Road, from the roundabout with Six Hills Way to Cavendish Road.
Traffic management measures will be in place on the Gunnels Wood Road/Six Hills Way roundabout.
From April 6 the exit for the northbound side of Gunnels Wood Road will be closed for four weeks. Traffic will be diverted south along Gunnels Wood Road to the roundabout with Broadhall Way, where it will be directed on to the northbound side of Gunnels Wood Road.
The remaining gas mains replacement in Gunnels Wood Road will take place in the cycle lane. Cyclists will be asked to dismount for those sections where work is underway.
National Grid construction engineer Dilbir Chana said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by our work.
"Every effort will be made to complete the work as quickly as we can, and to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and motorists."
