SUN and fun brought out a large crowd for the biggest free festival in North Herts at the weekend.

Thousands of people turned up for this year’s Walsworth Festival in Hitchin on Sunday drawn by the scorching weather and the family fun.

Now in its 35th year, the festival, put on by a small group of volunteers, is a platform for charities and local organisations to raise money and their profile with stalls, games, music and dance among the many things on offer.

Festival treasurer, North Herts District Cllr Bernard Lovewell, said: “It was well attended and was a very hot day. I can’t remember when we have had better weather than that. There were events all day and great fun was had by all.

“An awful lot of money is raised by the charities and they come back every year. It’s a community event - all we want to do is put on a good festival every year.”
