COME and share your views on the future of a town centre is the plea as a consultation launches on Saturday with a week-long public exhibition.

Organised by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, visitors to 12-14 The Arcade in Letchworth GC will be able discuss the long-term development of The Wynd and the wider town centre with the team involved.

The Heritage Foundation have appointed Allies and Morrison: Urban Practitioners, a regeneration consultancy, who will work with the local community and businesses through a series of workshops and walking tours.

Feedback will be used to develop options for the town centre, which will be presented to the public later in the year.

The latest consultation comes after previous plans for The Wynd were scrapped by the Foundation in December.

While a long-term plan is established, short-term improvement works expected to cost 300,000 are currently being carried out which will see the area refurbished and repainted, a pirate ship playground and sensory garden built and part of The Gallery converted into a covered market, auction house and public toilets.

“The exhibition is a great opportunity for the local community to let us know what they want to see in the town,” said Adrian Brace, the Foundation’s director of property.

“I would encourage anyone who lives, works or plays here to have their say and help shape the future.”

Letchworth GC town centre manager Lee Boswell added: “It’s very much simply a case of ‘take the opportunity’. I want as many people as possible to go to the exhibition, to go to the consultation, to go to the town meeting on Thursday (tomorrow) and say their piece and to talk about what they would like to see in the town.

“I welcome the opportunity for everyone to do that.”

The exhibition kicks off with refreshments and free face painting on Saturday at 10am and will remain open from 10am to 6pm daily until Friday, May 20. On Thursday evening the opening hours will be extended to 7.30pm.

For those unable to visit the exhibition, there’s the opportunity to join the conversations at www.thenextsteps.co.uk and also sign-up for forthcoming workshops.

*The Foundation’s annual Garden City Town Meeting will be held at Plinston Hall tomorrow (Thursday) from 7pm, providing the public with a further chance to voice their views on the organisation and their future plans.
