Families have been given the keys to 24 new homes on a �3.2m Stevenage social housing site.
All the two, three and four-bedroom homes on the Almonds Lane development have been taken up by people on the council’s housing list in a deal with social housing builder Affinity Sutton.
The land, previously owned by the authority was sold to the developer in return for affordable housing for rent.
Ann Webb, executive member for housing at the council, said: “This is another example of the council working in partnership to address the ongoing need for social rented housing in Stevenage. It is very pleasing to see these families moving into their new homes.”
The initial 100 per cent uptake by those on the council waiting list will drop to 70 per cent in the future, a council spokesman said.
The development was part funded by a �1.4m government Homes and Communities Agency grant and has been awarded a Building For Life award – the national standard for well-designed homes.
