A CONSULTATION which will shape the long-term future of a town centre has entered its final stage, opening to the public on Saturday.

Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation has revealed its plans for The Wynd, which will form part of a wider implementation plan for Letchworth GC town centre.

The preferred option is to create The Wynd Village, a concept developed from one of three options presented in a consultation last autumn.

The scheme draws on the Letchworth’s Hidden Garden idea, bringing together shops, cafs, restaurants, housing, market stalls and regular events within a ‘garden centre’ environment.

Alongside the new development, the current shops at The Wynd would be retained, with more than 130 car parking spaces available. If it gets the go-ahead, the project will be implemented in stages over the next five years.

David Ames, head of strategic planning and heritage for the Heritage Foundation, said: “We’ve put together a preferred option for The Wynd and this is really everyone’s opportunity to give their final say on this preferred option. So please do come down to see us at the hub, this is your opportunity for your final say on these before we make our submissions to the council.”

To share your views visit the final public exhibition, which runs until Friday, June 8, at the Community Hub in Station Road.

For the first week the exhibition will be staffed by members of the project team who will be on hand every day apart from Sunday between 10am and 4pm to answer questions. The Community Hub will also remain open until 7pm next Thursday.

There will also be an online exhibition at www.thenextsteps.co.uk
