MORE time has been given for plans to refurbish Hitchin’s Churchgate Shopping Centre.
A planning application was originally submitted by leaseholders Hammersmatch in 2008, and included plans such as resurfacing the walkway, inserting new windows and the removal of existing canopies.
North Herts District Council’s planning control committee agreed last Thursday to grant planning permission for these again, effectively extending the time Hammersmatch has to commence work.
The application was supported by town centre groups, including Hitchin Initiative, Hitchin Forum, Hitchin Society, Keep Hitchin Special, Hitchin Historical Society and The Churchgate Association.
