A COUNCIL will decide tomorrow (Tuesday) whether to proceed with a public consultation on plans for the former Hitchin sorting office.
As previously reported by the Comet, North Herts District Council (NHDC) has been working with the site’s owners, Whitebarn Developments (Hitchin) Ltd, to produce a draft development brief for the site, which was owned by Royal Mail before it moved its services to Stevenage.
That brief has now been completed and, if approved at Cabinet on Tuesday, will be subject to consultation this summer.
Potential ideas aired in the document include plans for a hotel, shops, restaurants, cafes, and flats and housing. It is also proposed to landscape pathways and introduce parking.
Councillors are recommended to approve the draft for public consultation, in order to move along with the process quickly.
