A MOTHER whose son was killed while serving as a British soldier in Afghanistan has passed through Letchworth GC as she completes a 10-day walk in his memory.

Christine Bonner’s son Darren was killed in action in 2007 and every year since 2008 she has pounded 150 miles across UK counties including Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex – where the Royal Anglian Regiment traditionally recruits its troops, and which her son served with.

The 56-year-old made her way through Hertfordshire and visited North Herts District Council’s offices in Gernon Road on the fifth leg of the walk, which finished in Essex today (Saturday).

Mrs Bonner was joined by soldiers from the regiment for the All the 4s walk and has raised more than 187,000 for the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity. She hopes to break the 200,000 mark this year.
