There will be no mince pie binges and other festive over-indulgence for members of a Letchworth drama group over the festive season – as soon as Boxing Day is behind us, they’ll be on stage performing a fast-paced seasonal show.

The SPADS traditional family panto this year is Jack & The Beanstalk, and the curtain goes up at the St Francis College theatre in Broadway on Saturday, December 27.

And if one performance a day isn’t enough of a test in that post-turkey and all the trimmings period, they’re putting on two shows daily throughout the four-day run which continues until Tuesday, December 30.

The team promises all the usual elements of panto including bright, colourful costumes and characters, lively music and dance, audience interaction, corny gags, slapstick, a lovable fairy and an outrageous dame.

There will be performances each day at 2pm and 6pm, and you can order tickets – priced £9 and £10 – online at www.spads-drama.org.uk although they are also available from the Local & Tourist Information Centre in Station Road, Letchworth.

SPADS stages three productions a year, with shows scheduled in March and June as well as the panto run.

New members are welcome whether you’re interested in appearing on stage or working behind the scenes – email jacqui@routledge.me.uk if you’d like to know more. They meet on a Monday and Thursday evening at St. Paul’s Church Hall in Pixmore Way, where the March and June productions are also performed.
