Key in the ignition, handbrake off, set the sat-nav to SG1 2AX – fans of marvellous motors won’t want to miss the chance to savour the serried ranks of spectacular steel stallions on show at Knebworth this weekend.

The 12th Knebworth Festival of Transport takes place on Saturday and Sunday, and each day has different highlights to attract petrolheads aplenty, while also having lots to keep the family entertained, too.

Saturday’s special attraction comes in the form of Minis and VW models as well as a wide variety of classic cars and motorbikes.

And on Sunday the focus switches to kit and sports cars, custom creations and outrageous American motors, as well as commercial vehicles.

Organisers say this much-anticipated event regularly attracts hundreds of cars, so there is plenty to see.

There are a range of concours competitions on the timetable, where each vehicle is lovingly presented at its absolute best by proud owners.

Most exhibitors are very happy to chat to visitors about their vehicles, and there are also trade stands and an autojumble for bargain hunters to explore.

Admission is £9.50 per person and that includes entry to the park and extensive adventure playground area where children can let off steam on the slides, play equipment and zip wire, as well as the stately home’s lovely gardens, dinosaur trail and maze. There is a small extra charge to visit Knebworth House itself.
