They’re big across the Atlantic, but Americana duo Hungrytown are on this side of the pond at the moment and a tour promoting their latest album will take in Baldock next week.

The duo – Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, married in real life as well as partners on stage – have been performing all over the world for more than a decade and have produced three albums while building up a reputation for the quality and authenticity of their songwriting.

When they got together in New York Rebecca was working as a jazz singer while multi-instrumentalist Ken was drumming with a string of garage bands.

They were introduced to folk music when a close friend who died young due to a tragic misdiagnosis entrusted them with her collection of 1960s folk albums and her guitar – which has since been featured on all of their albums

The new release Further West has been in the top 10 on the American Folk DJ charts over the summer and their tour includes a stop at the Baldock and Letchworth Folk Club at the Orange Tree pub in Norton Road next Wednesday night, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the September 16 show are £10 and you can find out more about what’s on offer, and the rest of the programme, online at www.madnanny.co.uk.

The new season at Hitchin Folk Club is now under way, and this weekend’s headliner at the Sun Hotel is Martin Simpson, who can claim to have been nominated for prestigious Radio 2 Folk Awards more times than any other artist.

Doors open at 7.30pm on Sunday with the music starting at 8.15pm. Tickets are £12 for members and £14 for visitors.
