My dear old thing, have you seen who’s padding up for a spell at the wicket at The Cricketers in Weston?

It’s none other than that fruity-toned ringmaster of the Test Match Special commentary team Henry Blofeld and his partner in crime Peter Baxter.

They are touring with a show called Rogues On The Road, full on anecdotes about their globetrotting experiences covering our summer game.

After packing in fans during an opening innings last year, a spring follow on has been ordered – and that includes the Weston date, billed as part of Baldock’s Fireside Festival of storytelling sessions.

The two have more than 80 years of combined experience in covering cricket and scoffing cake, with microphone man Blowers and producer Peter ready to regale audiences with tales of lost passports, diplomatic incidents and after-hours shenanigans across the years and across the globe.

They will be at the pub on Thursday, March 3. You can find out more about the desperate duo online at and book tickets – and find out more about what the Fireside Festival has to offer – at

The festival itself kicks off next Tuesday, February 23, and continues until Saturday, March 5, with Ruby Wax, anarchist cook George Egg, and an intriguing show from Tessa Bide called The Tap-Dancing Mermaid.
