Paloma Faith charmed the crowd with her self-proclaimed ‘girl-next-door’ image at Newmarket Nights on Friday.

‘Lullaby’, ‘Changing’, ‘Make Your Own Kind of Music’ and ‘Can’t Rely on You’ were among the many hits performed at the concert, at the famous Newmarket racecourses.

Dressed in a white and silver figure-hugging jumpsuit, the popstar made no reservations about strutting her stuff on stage, while delivering on her faultlessly powerful high notes.

Throughout the performance, Paloma took the chance to engage with the audience, discussing her teenage boyfriend who, according to the star, struggled with police victimisation as a young black man in Hackney – and inspired her song Kings and Queens.

She also spoke about the birth of her first child, encouraging body positivity, and the story behind her recent Skoda advertising deal.

Paloma’s humility and seemingly down-to-earth personality was further highlighted when she not only thanked and applauded her band and back-up singers at the end of the show, but continuously throughout.

Before the show, Paloma said: “I can’t wait to perform at Newmarket Racecourses this summer for the first time.

“I love summertime and I love outdoor shows so to be able to perform on a hopefully sunny evening at the course is something I’m very much looking forward to.”

Something that stood out was one particular engagement Paloma had with a member of the crowd.

She stopped between songs to ask a gentleman who was taking photographs to kindly not post any pictures on social media where she has a double chin or ‘tree-trunk’ thighs, which amused concert-goers.

She later went on to remove her high heeled shoes, proceeding with the show bare-footed, and going back to the photographer, joking that the pictures would have to stop altogether – as this was now ‘girl-next-door territory’.

Paloma Faith is among many other stars taking to the stage at Newmarket, with James Blunt set to take the stage on Friday, Craig David on July 20, and Plan B on July 27.
