A SQUARE dance for people of all abilities has been organised to help raise money for charity.
The event will take place at Hitchin Town Hall on January 14 between 8pm and 11pm, and those with two left feet should not shy away.
Pam Maunders, who set up the Black Squirrel Square Dance Club in Letchworth GC five years ago, has helped organise the event.
She said: "It is ideal for men who can't dance. It is a slow dance, almost like walking, and men seem to enjoy it more than women."
Pam and her husband Les are donating the money raised from the dance to Cancer Research UK in memory of their daughter Ruth who died of cancer 18 months ago.
They believe the last time a square dance was held in the town hall was probably in the 1950s when such events became popular after Prince Phillip and the then Princess Elizabeth were photographed dancing during a state visit to Canada.
As people dance a caller will instruct them to do certain movements.
Pam said: "If the dancers are struggling, the caller will shout instructions for easier, slower movements. If they are doing well, the moves will be more difficult."
Tickets are priced at £4.50 each. They can be ordered by ringing 01462 673028.
