AN ACCIDENT, involving a pensioner and a young man, forced road closures in Hitchin town centre.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision between a 92-year-old male pedestrian and a silver Citroen Saxo on Tuesday evening last week.

It happened on Bancroft, between the junctions with Hermitage Road and Nightingale Road.

The elderly man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lister Hospital but released a couple of hours later.

The 20-year-old driver, from Hitchin, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
