Chairman Shirley Watts greeted members and visitors to the April meeting. The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer have been invited to the Hatfield Guild on May 4 to discuss the new Constitution. Sue Smith and Irene Langley from HQ will attend to answer any questions. Hanging baskets and containers was the topic of our speaker, Valerie Day. We were shown various kinds of baskets, how to prepare them for planting and which plants to choose so as to give a continuous display for several months. Lots of tips were given and mentally filed away. Mary Nudds, our Gardening Section Chairman gave the vote of thanks to Mrs Day for a most interesting and instructive talk. Caroline Watts, Area Manager of the Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC) gave a short address - thanking us very much for our Charity cheque for £600 and letting us know that there is now a dedicated website for anyone needing information about arthritis in al its forms. There were many entries for the competition for a single flower - results next month, Peggy Maloney won the raffle. The next meeting at the Shephall Centre in the small room because of the Council Elections will be at 7.30pm on May 4 when Robert Lancaster will give us The History of Spirella. During the social half hour the motions for the NCM will be discussed, any visitors very welcome.
