One of the curses of our times, but perhaps a convenient necessity in the hubble and bubble of live as it is today. Well done to The Highfield School's head, Jane Winterbone, who reminded everyone in the school's newsletter about the school's policy on mobile phones, following the first incident at the school of a mobile phone being used to video a bullying incident. While fully realising that many parents feel reassured for safety reasons that their child has a mobile, the school insists that students must have a signed permission letter before they can take a mobile to school; all mobiles must be switched-off between 8.30am and 3.30pm; all mobiles must be kept inside the student's school bag and if any student is seen using a mobile phone it will be confiscated overnight and a parent/carer will then be asked to collect it the next day. Sensible rules, I say.... It may also to help to stop the practice of children using mobiles as permanent fixture to their ear!
