A RECORD number of people put pen to paper to give their views on Stevenage town centre.

An annual survey published recently in The Comet asked readers for their comments on issues such as the shopping offer, cleanliness, car parking and safety and security.

There were 500 responses to the survey conducted by Stevenage Town Centre Management Company and four lucky winners were picked at random to scoop the prizes on offer.

The first prize of £150 worth of Marks & Spencer vouchers was awarded to Christine Burch from Lower Stondon whose name was the first out of the bag.

She was presented with them on Monday by Tracey Parry, Stevenage town centre manager.

Judi Green and Susan Slowe, both from Stevenage, and Brenda Downie from Shillington netted the three runners-up prizes of £50 worth of shopping vouchers each, which can be spent anywhere in the Westgate Centre.

"We are delighted at the enthusiastic response we have received," said Mrs Parry.

"The views and opinions of those people who visit Stevenage town centre play an important role in helping us to achieve a town centre that we can all be proud of."

The results of the survey will be analysed over the next few weeks and the responses compared to previous years. A copy of the final report will then be available on the Stevenage Town Centre Initiative's website: www.stevenage-town-centre.co.uk
