LABOUR Euro MP Richard Howitt got involved in some heavy lifting at the Stevenage Furniture Recycling Scheme.
He helped load vans with tables, chairs and other items as part of the Make A Difference Day.
Mr Howitt said: "Volunteering gives you the chance to meet new people, pick up new skills and have a lot of fun."
Long standing volunteer and helper for the Douglas Drive Day Centre, Janice Brooke, said: "I thought I would give it a try and now thoroughly enjoy helping out. I spend my time chatting, serving teas, and going on the occasional outing. Recently we had great fun dressing up in 1940s style clothes to celebrate 60 years of Stevenage.
