POLICE are to step up patrols at a cemetery after complaints about graves being vandalised.
Biggleswade Town Council discussed the problems involving Stratton Way Cemetery at its meeting on Tuesday night and also sought advice from local beat manager Pc Ian Wilson.
"We have had a complaint about toys being stolen from a young child's grave so we have asked police for help," said Cllr Rex Skinner.
"The trouble is, children using the nearby recreation ground often go into the cemetery to get balls that have been kicked over the fence."
Pc Wilson said officers would keep an eye on the cemetery at night.
"Items have been taken from graves and flowers have gone missing," said Pc Wilson. "In some cases the strong winds are to blame and rabbits eat the flowers. But we are making sure the area is patrolled better at night."
