STAFF members at a betting shop were threatened with a knife by a robber who then made off with a quantity of cash.

Bedfordshire Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery, which took place at Ladbrokes in Southbridge Street, Shefford, at around 5.53pm on Friday.

Two male members of staff were threatened by the offender, who has been described as 5ft 9in tall, of slim build, wearing a black balaclava, black jacket, blue tracksuit bottoms and holding a carrier bag.

The investigating officer, Dc Luke Moore, said he was keen to speak to anyone who saw the man hanging around the area before the incident, or saw him running from the premises or getting into a vehicle.

Dc Moore, who believes the offence could be linked to similar ones at Bedford and Stewartby at the beginning of January, said: "Fortunately no one was hurt in this incident, but the staff were understandably shocked by what happened.

"It is possible that a passing motorist, pedestrian or resident saw something that, until now, they did not realise was suspicious. If that is the case, we would ask them to contact us."

Anyone with information can contact Dc Moore, in confidence, on 01234 275011, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
