GRANTS totalling almost £4,000 have been allocated to community groups in Letchworth GC.

To help tackle the issue of dog fouling, North Hertfordshire District Council's Letchworth committee has allocated £795 for the installation of three dog waste bins - two in the Westbury area and one close to the Jackmans play area.

The committee has also allocated £1,000 to help improve safety and access routes to Norton Common bowling green, and Rap-Aid will receive £500 towards providing soccer training sessions, during school holidays, for young people from the Baldock Road, Grange and Westbury areas.

Mind - a drop-in facility for people suffering from mental health problems - received £416 towards running costs.

The committee also allocated £750 to support the opening of a holistic health service at the Buddhist Community Centre, and £520 towards the launch and development of the Letchworth African Caribbean Harmony Group.

The committee still has funds available from this year's budget for grants for local groups.
