Arrogant, abrasive, abrupt - not this version of Graham Westley.

Westley began his second stint as Stevenage manager this week and promised that he is up for the challenge and has some "unfinished business".

The man who spent three and a quarter years in charge until May 2006 is back but with a difference.

Westley replaces Peter Taylor and said: "I'm very conscious of whatever I say, it's about what myself, the management and the players produce on the pitch.

"It's about actions, not words, I know that.

"The chairman has said this is a job about entertaining people. If you do that, you are on the right road and results will follow."

Westley was vilified in his previous spell in charge at Broadhall Way for a poor man-management style, both by home and opposition fans.

"When I left, there were people who had bad things to say about me. "When I came to Stevenage in the first instance, I had to drag the club out of the situation it was in. "It was about me and the players getting the job done. Perhaps you end up getting misunderstood. "I've learned and become a stronger person. I enjoy myself in good times or in bad times.

"I'm not as arrogant as people perceive me to be and I'm a decent human being.

"I've got passion for the game and the club. I had some fantastic times here before.

"I've been in the footballing wilderness for long enough and feel as though there is some unfinished business here."

The former Luton and Boro defender John Dreyer will be his assistant, with the pair on a one-year contract.

A fitness coach and first team coach should be appointed by the end of the month.

"Other clubs have bigger resources and bigger fan bases than us," continued Westley. "We can't afford to spend our money badly.

"But if we provide the right football product, we will have a chance.

"First and foremost, we want the public to be talking about the football team.

"I've got to develop a football team that entertains the Stevenage public.

"In the first instance, I demanded success and forgot other things. It was all about winning, winning, winning and winning before."

And Westley had these words for the fans disaffected by his return.

He said: "I don't want there to be a division between the players and the fans. Nothing good comes of division.

"I was just trying to be professional in my first spell in charge.

"It's important that fans feel they can talk to me, the manager, and the players.

"Relationships build if you give time to people. Supporters should feel part of the team as well."

Westley was speaking at Tuesday afternoon's press conference held at the ground.

Chairman Phil Wallace added: "The opinion of the board is that we need a manager who can hit the ground running come August, so extensive knowledge of the Conference is essential.

"Graham most certainly has that and is our preferred choice. We also know that we need people around him that are the right types and John Dreyer is most certainly that.

"The board has no doubt that Graham and John are a formidable partnership and the right people for us, right here, right now.

"Graham has changed a lot in two years but his energy, motivation and desire to succeed are even stronger than before.

"He's had a while to gather his thoughts about how to lead a club to success and has learnt over the last few years that Stevenage fans, including myself, want to watch a high tempo passing game played in the right spirit.

"That is the driver and motivation for everyone employed at Stevenage from now on, irrespective of who the manager is.
