A CAR involved in the theft of jewellery worth £150,000 in Mid Beds was found three weeks later in North Herts.
The green BMW was reported to police by a member of the public who thought it had been abandoned as it had been parked in the same spot in Rushby Mead, Letchworth GC, for so long.
After she contacted Herts Police on Tuesday last week, they passed on the information to their counterparts in Bedfordshire.
The woman believed the car appeared in Rushby Mead at 3.15pm on either June 6 or 7. It had been left locked and secure and never reported stolen. The only damage to it was a broken passenger wing mirror.
Dc Simon Butler, of Bedford CID, is looking for people who might have seen the BMW - registration number K794 LMD - being parked in Rushby Mead around that date.
The occupants of the car were responsible for stealing a case of jewellery from a salesman after he parked at Matalan in London Road, Biggleswade, on Monday, June 5.
The man had been on his way back from a jewellery sales trip to Lincolnshire when he stopped at Matalan to buy a shirt at about 6.30pm.
He left the case in the boot of his car and was only gone a few minutes - but when he returned to the vehicle he found it had been broken into and the case taken.
Witnesses in the car park said the BMW had parked up alongside the salesman's Vauxhall Vectra, three young men got out, broke the window and got into the boot by removing the back seats.
Anyone with information that can help the investigation is asked to contact Dc Butler on 01234 275333.
