BIGGLESWADE police have launched an investigation after a young girl was accidentally shot in the face.

The incident happened on a footpath behind Sainsbury's in the town in area known as Bells Brook near the River Ivel on Monday night.

Police say the girl, believed to be aged 12, was walking along the footpath when a pellet struck her in the lip.

A local man shooting rabbits in a nearby field was spoken to by police and released without charge, pending further inquiries.
