PLANS to proceed with a 1.8m swimming centre revamp have moved a step closer this week.
North Herts District Council’s Cabinet agreed on Tuesday to request more detailed costings on plans to build dance studios, car parking and new changing facilities at Hitchin Swimming Centre.
Officers will report back to councillors at a later date, and decision will eventually be made by Full Council.
At the meeting, Cllr Ian Knighton, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “This is a bonus for the leisure centre and a bonus for the local community.”
Early estimations show that the project could cost up to 1.83m – more than the council has budgeted – but that could change.
