A woman was taken to hospital with back pain after a multi-car crash in Stevenage yesterday evening which closed a stretch of road for more than an hour.

Police were called to the scene of the crash at Gresley Way just before 7.40pm, which saw three cars collide near the junction with Chalkdown.

Gresley Way was closed from The White Way to Uplands. Initial eye-witness accounts suggested there were four cars involved, but police have confirmed the vehicles were a blue Fiat Panda, a blue Peugeot 206, and a white Mercedes.

A fire crew and a land ambulance attended and the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was taken to Lister Hospital for further care.

The road was reopened at about 9pm.
